Although The Westmann Islanders have always appreciated the beauty of the nature surrounding them, they have also made good use of these natural resources especially in earlier years when times were often difficult. Fish swam in the sea, birds were a source of meat and eggs, plants and grasses grew on all the islands. Peoble not only saw the beauty of this nature but also relied on it for their very existence.
