The Rotary Club of Vestmannaeyjar was chartered on 26th May1955. The Club currently has 16 members, of which 7 are women.  We meet every Thursday between 18.30 - 20.00 at the  Restaurant Höllin, Strembugötu 13 . Because of the intresting location of our meeting place in the center of Vestmannaeyjar, we are visited by traveling fellow rotarians from all parts of Iceland and overseas. An always equally rewarding and acknowledged privilage to which we always extend a big welcome.

President
Ólafur Ólafsson,
President 2001 - 2002.

Our Community Vestmannaeyjar (Westmann Islands )

    Westmannislands
The islands are located six miles (10 km) off Iceland´s southwest coast. Heimaey , only five square miles (13,4 km²) in size, is the largest of the Westmann Islands. It has about 4.600 residents and an economy baset on fishing. The oldest part of the island is merely 12,000 years old, formed from a volcanic eruption.

The newest part came into existence in the winter of 1973, when a new eruption increased the size of the island by one-fifth. Ironically, the still-steaming lava that borders the east side of town lies within view of a glacier on the main island of Iceland.
